Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
History, Facts and Overview

(Newark, New Jersey - NJ, USA)

The very first airport to operate within the New York area, Newark Liberty Airport was established towards the end of 1928. In the mid-1930s, crowds gathered to watch the arrival of famous aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, who opened the Administration Building, and for several years, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) remained the busiest airport on the planet, until 1939, when New York's LaGuardia Airport was finally completed.

Modern-day facilities at Newark Liberty Airport meet a variety of passenger needs and include Travelex counters and ATMs, lost and found services, an onsite police force, passenger paging and spa areas, including the Massage Bar.

A 'Traveler's Aid' service is provided for passengers in need of assistance, while a meditation room is onsite and features regular services for Roman Catholics and Protestants. Also of interest in an onsite Marriott Hotel, an exclusive President's Club with conference rooms, drop-off and pick-up areas close by and various Boss Shoeshine services.

Newark Liberty Airport boasts more than 40 different shopping outlets and around 60 places to eat. Some of the main shops include Altitunes, Borders Books, DKNY, Duty Free Shop, Metropolitan Museum of Art Store, Mindworks, Smithsonian Treasures of the World, Sprint PCS and the US Open Golf House. Those looking for a bite to eat at Newark Liberty Airport will find much to choose from, such as Asian Chao, Ben & Jerry's, Charley's Grill Subs, Gallagher's Steakhouse, Garden State Diner, O'Brien's Pub and Wetzel Pretzels.
